S50 Logo and Voice Tag Update

Saturday, December 03, 2005

If you have an S50 and some logos and voice tags are missing, after the channel update this past week here is how to fix it.

1) Downloaded the updated version of My Sirius Studio HERE
2) Shut down the S50
3) Connect S50 to your PC via the USB cable
4) Open My SIRIUS Studio software, let the program recognize the S50.
5) Keep the S50 connected to your PC for an hour or so
6) If you do not want to wait an hour, go in my SIRIUS Studio click on file then go to device settings, you can click Restore Factory Defaults, if you do not mind clearing all the content on your S50 this will work, but it WILL REMOVE all Mp3s you have saved..
7) Power off the unit then re-dock the unit in the Car kit..

If when you put the S50 back in the car kit any you only get some stations, undock, remove power to dock, remove battery from S50. Then put batter back in, redock, then plug power back in to docking station.

Here is a way the Dr. Droo said works also:

If you want to force an update of Channel Logos and Voice tags, and you're a particularly savvy type, you can.

The file you'll need is:

http://download.sirius.speedera.net/xena/Firmware/SYSTEM.zip

When you unzip, there are two folders inside a folder called SYSTEM. These folders are: IMAGES and SPOKEN.

Locate your S50 drive letter by going to My Computer. In my case, mine is Q, but yours is likely E, F, somewhere in there. It should show up as a Removable Disk with a S50 icon.

Since the S50 uses hidden files, and most people don't have hidden files enabled, you will need to go to Start / Run and type E:\SYSTEM and hit OK, where E is the letter of your S50.

Right click on the IMAGES and SPOKEN folder that are there, and hit DELETE. Hit YES to confirm.

Copy the IMAGES and SPOKEN folder in that you downloaded.

Eject your S50 using My Sirius Studio, Unplug the USB cable, press and hold the Playlist button (upper right) to shut it down, then turn it back on again.

You should be all set.

Standard disclaimer applies about how if you hose the thing, etc. you can't come picket in the front yard.

However, Sirius has put in a lot of great safeguards to insure that it would be very difficult to turn the unit into a brick. Not that I'm suggesting you try to brick your unit.
