Sorry, Canada.. No Stern for you..

"Sirius Satellite Radio revealed today that Sirius Canada will offer 100 channels of programming when it launches in December. While the channels will offer music, news, sports, and entertainment programming, Howard Stern's two U.S. channels will not be available on the Canadian outlet. Sirius Canada will, however, include ten Canadian music and information stations in both English and French. The monthly subscription rate will be $14.99 (CAD) a month."

How will they accomplish this? Does Sirius restrict this by ESN? Therefore, if the unit is sold in the US and moved into Canada, they get Stern... right?

Why would they not include Stern in the Canadian package? I heard something about tighter indecency restrictions, etc. in Canada, but if that is the case then how come they can carry uncensored hip hop channels and so forth, but not Howard? Doesn't seem like a smart move. Howard is a big selling point and distinction between the two services and I would think that both Sirius and Howard would want to be on in Canada.

Doesn't make much sense cause the general opinion of canadians is that as a society, we're probably more liberal then americans (well at least the ones in power). Blame the CRTC.

I think it's quite simply because they would have to add an additional channel of Canadian content, or remove 2 channels to make way for the Stern channels. I do agree that this will be a simple situation where people who want Stern will sign up using a U.S. Address.. I doubt they will be logging ESNs to prevent this.

If this is truely the case i will be using an American address to get my service. What a slap in the face of canadian consumers, the reason i want sirius is to listen to Howard. What a load of crap,so much for Canadian liberalism, i,m emmbaressed.
