The Government getting to be a Sirius Pain in the Satellite
Three members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), the immediate past chair, Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) and Rep. Albert R. Wynn (D-Md.), have asked Sirius Satellite Radio (Sirius) executives not to cancel The Word Network, a five-year-old mainstream media broadcaster for African-American ministries and gospel music.
Sirius is not looking to renew with "The Word Network" in September. (One of the lowest listened to streams according to my insider at Sirius)
This letter from Elijah E Cummings (D-Md) really just wants to me fight this push.
The letters by Cummings went on to say, "Both the FCC and Congress want to ensure that our laws and policies preserve and promote the kind of programming that makes radio - whether satellite or terrestrial - a source of diversity and enrichment." The FCC can worry about FM and keep out of Satellite radio.
Sirius' Vice President of Programming Jay Clark in which they discussed the network's decision to cancel The Word Network on Sept. 2. During the private meeting, Clark told Jackson and Gibbs that Sirius had also cancelled two other minority channels.
I'm told that Sirius did not like the contracts they were under and did not want to renew, Sirius also knows there is a small market for stations like these, so I'm sure they have somethings in mind to replace these stations.. Oh and The Reverend Jesse Jackson and executives from The Word Network hand-delivered over 15,000 protest letters this week to Sirius Satellite Radio, arguing their decision to end Word Network broadcasts.. So if Jesse wants Sirius not to cut "The Word" off they better not, he wants his kick back funds from it Jesse Jackson is currently the host of The Word Network’s Rainbow Push with Jesse Jackson which broadcasts African-American ministries, gospel music and religious family programming.... One more fun line from the PR from The Word, "Our request is simple: if Sirius can make room for the values Howard Stern represents, we'd also like them to make room for the values we represent." Ok here is the deal people listen to Howard.... Now note these are my views on this topic please read the full PR from The Word, and make your own view
