It is not JACK-FM!
Sirius wants to make sure that you know that Sirius "Super Shuffle" is not like FM's JACK. . "Super Shuffle that will launch 9/29 and featuring a variety of music offered on all 65+ Sirius music channels, listeners will hear the most popular songs in a mix of genres. This new station will also act as a sample station to help Sirius listeners find music stations that they like. When you listen to "Super Shuffle" the display on your radio will tell you what station the song playing is normally played. The bumpers and liners will also include this information. Unlike JACK-FM, "Super Shuffle" will be a station that only Satellite radio can provide. For some reason chatter on the internet is already bashing this station that has not even started yet... Sirius Super Shuffle will be Sirius 12 starting 9/29...

Hurricane Katrina
As you know Hurricane Katrina is going to go down in History. I would like to remind everyone that millions of Americans have been effected by Katrina.. I would like anyone who can to Join me in making a donation to The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army, they need money to feed and help millions. I do want to point out that the people and the Government of the United States gave billions to the tsunami victims. As of today no other country has stepped up to help the people of the United States. This is a little disheartening, but more reason for all Americans to give what they can to help! My other bug question is what is going on with the Major US networks? Were are the special reports? Why is this not more important then Big Brother or Thommy Lee?!?!? Please they broke in for the tsunami, yes that was worth it, but why is this not? A major US city is under water and whole counties are GONE?!?!?! On the Satellite radio front, this was one of the first times in American history that Satellite radio was used to save lives and inform. Without power and many FM/AM stations in the effected areas down.. Leaders and everyday people used Sirius and XM to get information. I personally know someone who lost everything but his car and some personal items.... He told me that as he was leaving the area Sirius was a tool that he could not have lived without, having FOX news audio was "life saving" he tells me..

Blame Canada...
Sirius Canada Inc., is scrambling to increase its French-language programming in the hope of staving off a cabinet-ordered review of its licence approval. The cabinet has until Sept. 14 to approve, reject or send the licence decision back to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission for a review. Kevin Shea, CEO of Sirius, said he hopes his company can address the complaints and avoid a review.

Elvis Radio not a short-lived publicity stunt
In todays LA Times; THIS story looks at Elvis Radio on Sirius..

Elvis Radio, one of more than 130 channels on Sirius, may be the first station to transform what is normally a short-lived publicity stunt into a full-time dial fixture. As such, the all-Elvis station is widely viewed as an early litmus test for the ultra-niching that may lie ahead in satellite and digital radio, which offers listeners hundreds of channel choices.

"When Sirius asked me if I wanted to program a channel committed solely to Elvis, it was a no-brainer," said Scott Lindy, a veteran of traditional radio and now Elvis Radio's programming director. "Everybody has an Elvis connection. I don't care who you are or where you're from, you know who Elvis is. This is no gimmick, we're not going away."

Broadcast daily from Presley's former home, the popculture mecca of Graceland, the one-note station celebrated its first anniversary earlier this month, timed to coincide with Elvis Week, the 28th annual commemoration of Presley's death.

The SIRIUS S50 stores content in a variety of formats for listening on the go, including "My SIRIUS Channels," "My SIRIUS Songs," "Scheduled Record," and "My Playlists."

Listeners can turn the knob to find their favorite SIRIUS channel, tilt to pause, rewind, fast-forward or save a favorite song or show. From the The Halifax Herald Limited:
More than 600 new jobs are coming to Cape Breton, many offering support to the American satellite radio company Sirius Satellite Radio.

About 200 of the positions are seasonal, as the company often experiences a spike in business over the holidays, a Stream spokeswoman said Tuesday.
"Holidays tend to be gift-giving time, and people need to turn on the products (they received), that sort of thing," Katherin Dockerill said.

Arbitron will start reporting Satellite Radio Listenership..
By Katy Bachman, Mediaweek

In a sign that more consumers are turning to alternative distribution platforms for their radio listening, Arbitron will begin to report satellite radio listening as part of its syndicated ratings surveys beginning with the Fall 2005 survey, the ratings firm said late Friday. Arbitron will also include a radio station’s Internet audience in the station’s ratings estimate, beginning in Spring 2006. The enhancements were announced late last week during Arbitron’s twice-annual Advisory Council with its radio station clients. All satellite radio channels will be eligible, but only those channels that garner enough audience to meet minimum reporting standards, will be included. In lieu of call letters, satellite radio channels for XM Satellite Radio will begin with the characters “XM and the call letters for Sirius channels will begin with the characters “XS followed by the channel number. The listening audience to a terrestrial radio station’s Internet stream will be included in the ratings only if the online content duplicated 100 percent the programming of the on-air station, including the commercials. In the Winter 2005 survey, about 0.05 percent (five out of every 10,000) of quarter-hours of listening recorded in diaries was to a radio station’s Internet stream.Currently satellite radio listening has been included in the overall persons using radio estimates, but not broken out by channel. In Fall 2004, Arbitron said satellite radio appeared in about 1.2 percent of all diary entries. Since then, the number of satellite radio subscribers has grown to reach 6.2 million today and is forecast to reach 9 million by the end of the year. Neither satellite radio company subscribes to Arbitron’s syndicated ratings service, although XM Satellite Radio, which tends to sell advertising by network, rather than individual channel, uses custom research from the ratings firm. Arbitron has what it is calling a “delivery-neutral diary in the works to better capture the radio listening to the new radio distribution platforms.

If I was Sirius, I would not be happy that the codes are "XM" for XM and "XS" for Sirius.. XS?!?!? What the hell is that? Could this be a slap in the face for Mels comments

This is from
Don't worry, Soundscapes and the world music that you love returns to SIRIUS on September 29th. During the construction, Larry Kirwan's Celtic Crush can be heard on SIRIUS Disorder // Ch. 24.

SIRIUS always listens to your comments and suggestions, so check back here for a new name and channel number in the coming weeks. Thank you for your patience.

The 1st hints of something new this fall to the line up...

As reported last week there is talk of Sirius Censorship.. We need to make sure that Sirius keeps the Censotship_OFF.. Sirius Backstage is making a push to make Sirius knows what we think.. Go here
I would also like to pass this info on to vistors...

To all members of SIRIUS Backstage, we need your help!

It is not often that I feel compelled to speak out against a programming decision made by SIRIUS Satellite Radio in an open letter, however we are currently facing a crisis that will affect the future of music on SIRIUS.

SIRIUS has made a commitment to every listener to transmit music and content, as meant to be performed by the original artist. In exchange for this contract, we are currently paying $12.95 per month for an alternative form of radio – one that provides uncompromised music and entertainment.

There are many options when it comes to digital music - iTunes, Napster, XM and Rhapsody to name a few. We all chose SIRIUS based on the fact that the company did not conform to the mainstream media status quo. SIRIUS formed a relationship of trust with each and every subscriber and that trust is now at risk of being violated. Recall that SIRIUS even went as far as creating a manifesto denouncing censorship and embracing free speech and underground expression.

We need to let SIRIUS know that modifying the content originally promised – most notably alternative content that we grew to expect on channels such as Alt Nation and Faction - is not an acceptable action. I invite each one of you to openly express your unhappiness with their decision to alter songs from their original composition. Let SIRIUS and Sprint know that censoring content is not an acceptable solution for a pay radio service. Note that DISH Network has absolutely no issue accepting the original SIRIUS broadcast feeds in the unedited form. Both DISH Network and SIRIUS provide parental controls as a feature in most receivers. Sprint should bear the weight of content access control, not current SIRIUS subscribers!

Let SIRIUS know that their myopic practices of censorship will affect its business future. Satellite Radio was meant to be a haven for music as an art form; if this trend continues then the days of experimentation will soon disappear as partners such as Sprint demand a play-it-safe approach. Please let SIRIUS know that you are disgruntled at their recent moves and that you will retreat to other music services or your own personal music collection.

SIRIUS set out to solve what terrestrial radio listeners rejected: Lack of musical variety. Song repetition. Commercial overkill. Censorship.

Let’s start a revolution. Let’s put Listeners first. Let’s have standards, guts and empower the programmers and artists.

All it takes is a short letter. Express your concern. Be honest. Be sincere. Be respectful. Make your thoughts known.

Report: $20k For A Live Read By Howard Stern On Sirius

They are prevalent and incredibly effective for advertisers on The Howard Stern Show, but don't expect the price tag of a live read commercial to drop once The King Of All Media makes his move to Sirius Satellite Radio. According to a report by, when Stern kicks off his Sirius program in January, the cost of a live read commercial could cost as much as $20,000. That pricing rivals what Infinity Broadcasting is currently charging for a live read that reaches Stern's nearly seven million daily listeners, double the estimated three million subscribers Sirius will have when Stern joins.

"Howard will garner a large, loyal audience and he’ll be priced appropriately," Sirius SVP of Advertising Sales Sam Benrubi told
